Meet the people behind River City.

Seth Eastman

I’m Seth. I was born and raised in Midlothian, and today my wife, Laura, and I are raising our two girls in the same community I grew up in. Richmond has been “the River City” for as long as I can remember, so when it came time to name a company, the name picked itself.

Laura is a nurse practitioner, so health and what goes into our bodies come up a lot in our house, right down to the water from our kitchen tap. That curiosity helped inspire River City, and it still guides how we do business. We start with the water quality report published by your county or city, explain what it actually tells us, and help you decide what makes sense for your home. No guesswork, no sales pitch.

None of this is new to me. I’ve spent more than 20 years in sales, including 14 years selling medical equipment, and in that world the sale is only the beginning. The equipment has to be installed right, the people using it need to understand it, and when something isn’t right, someone has to pick up the phone. I’ve been that person for a long time, working side by side with the technicians who install and service the equipment. I’ve also built multiple homes and hired more contractors than I can count, so I know what it’s like to wait on a callback that never comes.

That’s why River City works the way it does. Our prices are on the website. There’s no commissioned salesperson and no drawn-out presentation at your kitchen table. My years in sales have taught me that the best way to earn someone’s business is to give them straight answers and let them decide.

River City is my company, and I stand behind every installation. Each one is done under the direction of Jake, a licensed Master Plumber with over 30 years of plumbing experience.

Master Plumber

Jake Seeman

  • Virginia Master Plumber, License #2710011226 (since 1995)
  • Backflow Prevention Device Worker, License #2717011226 (since 2009)
  • Verify both on Virginia DPOR (listed as Jeffrey Seeman)

Jake has been a licensed Virginia Master Plumber since 1995. That’s more than 30 years of plumbing experience in Central Virginia. Since 2009, he’s also been licensed to test backflow prevention devices, which help protect drinking water from contamination. Every River City installation is done under his direction. Outside of work, Jake is a husband and father who calls Powhatan home.

Now for the part we couldn’t leave out. For 14 years, Jake has also worked as a professional Santa Claus. No, really. Every holiday season, he trades his tool bag for the red suit.

Rest assured, on install day he uses the front door, and the only list he checks twice is our installation checklist. We like to think he’s the only Santa in Virginia with a Master Plumber license. And yes, the beard and mustache are the real thing.

Why We Built River City

River City Water Pros started with a simple question about our own home’s water.

Most of this industry still sells water filtration the same way: a sales rep comes to your house, runs a long presentation at your kitchen table, and closes with a discount that expires when he walks out the door. We don’t do that. No commissioned salespeople, no in-home sales presentation, and no high-pressure close.

That selling model costs money: the commission, the appointment, the discount theater. It gets built into what the homeowner pays. We don’t carry that overhead, so we don’t have to price around it.

Looking into water filtration, we kept running into the same things. Most companies wouldn’t share a price without an in-home sales appointment. Systems were sold as big bundles, often with a softener included by default, rather than being matched to what our local utilities actually report. And it was hard to find out what equipment was inside the tank.

So we built the company we would have wanted to buy from. We start with published Richmond-area water data. We use a clear system: catalytic carbon chosen for chloramine reduction, with optional reverse osmosis for drinking water. We explain what every component does. And every system is professionally installed by licensed Virginia plumbing professionals under the direction of a Master Plumber licensed since 1995.

If you have questions, we’re happy to answer them.
